Just recieved a call from the surgeons office. Because I had a stomach stapling years ago and the suture lined failed DR did a endoscope on me couldn't tell what was going on so did an upper GI said he still could not tell how much scar tissue etc there is.

So what they want to do is a 2 stage operation first do a Veritcal Gastrectomy Sleeve then let that heal 6-8 months then go back in and do the RNY.

Has anyone else had this done?

According to what I am looking at they remove 85% of the stomach (may not be a bad deal) and this part can never be reversed.

All of this is done Laparoscopically.

I meet with the surgeon April 10.

What an interesting development. I think there is another gal in our 'Hood who has a VGS. Let me see if I can find her and we'll get you two hooked up. Until then, is there anyone else who knows or has some advice?

ika,

I've never heard of two procedures being combined that way, but they are coming up with new procedures all the time.

I think Lynn has a good idea of putting you in touch with the other gal in the 'hood she may have some insights.

There is a woman in my support group and Miami Valley Hospital who had the procedure you're talking about and she lost a ton of weight very quickly. I felt kind of jealous when she said how much she had lost.

I know a women that had that same operation. She has lost 100 lbs. since Nov 07. She says she has episodes of feeling sick but she looks great.
