I drink alot of those premade protien drinks that I get at Walmart they are called Atkins Advantage. Are these the same as making your own? They state the have 15gm of protien. Thanks Michele

Hmmmm... I don't consider RTD (ready to drink shakes) the same as making my own. I count them both the same. I use RTD shakes for convenience. I prefer to make my own as I know exactly what is going into my body.

WorldWide Protein makes great RTD shakes in 11 oz cans. 24 - 35 grams of protein depending on flavor and only 2 - 4 grams of cards depending on flavor.

When I go away for a weekend trip, I usually pack a couple cans.

I love Cytosport Watermelon. Its very sweet and strong so I dilute it with water.

I also love Labrada Lean Body RTD (low carb version) which has 40 g in 17 oz. My favorite is chocolate. I don't drink it full strength either. Too thick. So I dilute it with a little bit of Hood Calorie Countdown Fat Free Milk. It heats up the best out of any RTD that I have seen and put a shot of espresso in... wowsers its a delish mocha latte. They are 3.49 at Vitamin Shoppe, and another reason I have started using more protein powders again... to stop taking a hit in my pocket book.

The Atkins ready to drink would be the only ones I know anything about. I think they are good ones to use.
When you say
Are these the same as making your own? I'm not sure what you are really asking. Are they the same nutritionally...do they taste the same...yada yada yada. My personal opinion is that they are good nutritionally and they taste good. I think making mine from Unjury protein powder gives me a little more protein per drink, but I'd use the Atkins ones if I needed to take them somewhere with me.
Hope that helps.

Bejean, Yes I was wondering if I get the same amout of protien with them as I do with the RTD ones. These use to be the only protien drinks I could drink because making my own made me sick to my stomach.

The RTD drinks usually don't have nearly as much protein as the powdered drinks you make yourself. They are convenient and they taste better than the ones you usually make yourself. It just depends on how much protein you want from a drink. When I do RTD, I use EAS Carb Control, also sold at Wal-Mart and it costs about the same as the Atkins but very low in carbs and sugar.

It's all about the protein source. RTD is the same as the powder if it is from the same company...like the Atkins powder (make your own) is going to be the same as the Atkins RTD. It costs more for the RTD...you must pay for convenience! Sure, there are other powders and other RTD's with more or less of this and that. Find what works for you and stick with it. The most important thing is to keep it under 5g of sugar.

Personally, I use the Atkins RTD the most.

The RTD drinks generally have fewer grams of protein. The powders I use are at least 23g each. Have you tried different brands? Do all of them make you sick?
