I just read Ian's blog in the Community Blog section regarding Barilla Pasta and also read Kaye's answer.

Have you heard of Dreamfields pasta? While I am unable to eat a whole serving of pasta, it satisfies my desire for pasta, tastes like the real thing and is only 5 net carbs per serving, high in fiber and protein.

I had my surgery on 2/28/2006 and have lost 98 lbs. I hit a plateau and gained a few (about 6) lbs. back....this was from too many controlled snacks. I found out about the 5 day pouch test and did it recently and am back on track, losing weight and feeling in control again.

If there is some reason why I should not allow myself this Dreamfields Pasta occasionally, I would like to hear about it.

If you want to read more about it, the website is:

I look forward to hearing from you.

I think you'll find that minimizing added carbs in the weight loss
phase of our journey is a good thing. However, if a small serving of
such an item after cafefully weighing the possible outcomes, gives you
a sense of comfort as opposed to wearing the old
hair shirt kind of white-knuckled deprivation, then, I say it's worht it.
Only you can figure that one out.
An thanks for the resourse. I'm gonna tuck it away as great info!

Hi, Sunshine!

I've used the Dreamfields products, also. They take a little longer to cook, but they definitely satisfy the pasta urge and with the added benefits of some extra protein and fiber. As Mickee says, it's best to minimize carb intake, but as an occasional treat, this is a great substitue for regular pasta.

I agree w/ MF & Catsroomie. Control is key though. If a person can't be satisfied w/ a little, then I think it's better to leave it alone. Fortunately, my guys aren't big on pasta, so it isn't a regular in our home. I would be the one w/ the problem.

Thanks for your response. You're right about minimizing the carbs, (which is my middle name...no carb - low-carb), but yes, a small serving (less than what the box serving size is) seems to keep me happy and on track....and you're right...no white knuckled deprivation. I don't have it very often because I don't want to get into any habits that may hurt me.

I've made this pasta for company and no one seems to know it's a low carb item. angel-smiley-002.gif

I have dreamfields mostly for my boyfriend. I can NOT eat the penne. It made me sick with just a few noodles once. They are too thick or something but it made me hurt real bad in my chest. So, I only do the spaghetti. My old roommate does the lasagna but I cant find it at my stores. I would like to though.

I go back and forth with pasta. Sometimes I eat the noodles, sometimes just the topping, but I only fix it every few months. One thing I had last time I made it: Boar's head pepperoni, roll up some mozarella cheese in it, put a toothpick to hold together, heat in microwave and it is like a pepperoni cheesestick. Then put in some low sugar marinara or spaghetti sauce. That way I also feel like the old days when I had pizza and spaghetti.

I learned rather quickly that I dont do well with pasta in the house. It is entirely too tempting for me..and since I am still in the losing phase, have purged it from my diet completely. Once I get to my happy weight...I will rethink that...but for now, no temptation is best for me!

If you can have it in the house and eat it in managable amounts without issue, then I dont see a problem with that. Bottom line, the pouch is just the tool...you are the one that uses it!

I have Dreamfields pasta in the house for the guys. It tastes too much like its fully loaded carb intake brother for me to eat it. I either leave the pasta off altogether or eat something else because I too am not at goal yet.

I am still loosing (33 lbs so far since Jan) and the Dreamfields Penne hasn't been an issue for me. I love it because it's lower in carbs, I can take a 1/4 cup (small handfull) boil it up add meat and sauce for dinner. I admit that I have to cook it much farther than al'dente. In small amounts it makes a great comfort food that's yummy and filling. I ordered the lasagna over the internet but I haven't figured out how to make a single serve lasagna yet. I assume you must boil the L noodles first.

Yes, you are right about cooking it longer at the point you are at. Al Dente would be too hard on your stomach.

As for making one serving of lasagne....that's a hard one. I have waited till I was having company and then made the whole thing....still had leftovers so I cut the rest in individual servings, wrapped and froze them for future use and in the beginning, I ended up throwing some of it out because my pouch just couldn't handle it (and I made it with just cheese, no meat.) Yes, you would have to pre-cook the lasagne noodles. You could probably make a much smaller portion by only cooking 2 noodles, cut them to size (maybe in thirds) and layer them in a small baking dish. I have a small corning ware that I would use. It will still be too much to eat but again, you could wrap and freeze the rest then at least it won't be so much leftover.

When I was at the point you are, I usually lived on protein shakes and small amounts of soup which I made myself so I could control the contents. I had a hard time digesting meats, especially beef in the beginning. It took so little to satisfy my hunger and of course, that makes it easier.

Congratulations on your weight loss! cool0012.gif This is an exciting adventure and so gooood for your health, not to mention your self-esteem.

Warm Regards,
