What is the name of this high protein oatmeal? I love oatmeal.

Celadon
Marla is at work so I will help out here.

It is Quaker Weight Control. Comes in Cinnamon and Maple and Brown Sugar. Sweetened with Splenda and has 7g of protein and 6g of fiber per serving.

What most of us do is add a scoop of protein powder to it. I think Marla adds some other stuff as well so she will probably reply as soon as she sees your post.

Marla's note: Quaker Weight Control Oatmeal comes in Banana bread flavor too!
Terri
How do you add protein powder??? Mine turns clumpy.
Terri
Ohhh....and thanks for the info

Celadon and/or Marla....isn't that high in carbs? I seem to recall picking up one to buy <i LOVE maple oatmeal>...and after looking at the carbs, put it back. Am I mistaken, or maybe it was a different kind? I would really like something other than eggs to eat for breakfast.

Good question Terri! laughing-smiley-011.gif

I heard my name...

Thanks Celadon!

Here is the link to my recipe in the Community Kitchen for Super Protein Oatmeal I use the Quaker Weight Control Oatmeal for the extra protein. And then I add other stuff. Making oatmeal with milk instead of water boosts the protein content.

Yes, there are carbs in oatmeal. Oatmeal is not something that should be eaten everyday. A couple times a week for breakfast is what I do. I bump the protein considerably first. And it isn't that all carbs are bad. Fruit, veggies and small amounts of whole grains are good. I prefer to get my carbs from fruit, veggies and dairy and a bit of whole grains.

This oatmeal was suggested to me by the nutritionist in the program I was in, in NYC where I had my surgery. Every program is different, so if you are unsure talk to your surgeon, doctor, and nutritionist. There are no stupid questions, only questions that go unanswered!

Enjoy Terri!

P.S - It is my understanding that in regards to adding unflavored protein powder to oatmeal, soup and other hot items, the powder needs to be added when the item is luke warm so that it doesn't get clumpy... don't reheat to make the item hot after adding powder!

Thank you. You don't know how tired I am of eggs. I used to really love them...now they are beginning to get to me.
Thanks again to everyone!

I use the Quaker, but this sounds good.

Welcome, godsgirl! Glad you've joined in the fun & encouragement. I like your sheep!

I use McCann's Irish Steel Cut Oats. You can toast the oats in the oven for a few minutes, toss them in a crock pot and allow it to cook overnight or while you're busy doing something else. It has a much better mouth feel than other oatmeals and four grams of protein. You can add your own spices, fruits, powders, etc. and simply heat and eat as you'd like. Avoid purchasing this at Whole Foods, you can find it much cheaper at Trader Joe's.
Terri
Thanks everyone for your advice. I truly enjoyed my bowl of oatmeal this morning. I could only manage to eat about 1/3 of it though. It is very filling.
Marla
Glad to hear you enjoyed the oatmeal. It is both yummy and filling!!! Enjoy! Can I come over for breakfast tomorrow?
