My surgeon leaves the decision up to his patients whether they want to use protein supplements or not. If you choose to use protein shakes, he wants you to drink no more than two per day during the weight-loss phase and no more than one per day thereafter.

On the other hand, I know there are some centers who require their patients to sign a contract agreeing to use protein supplements for the rest of their lives and other centers who forbid their patients from using protein supplements at all.

I'm very interested to see the outcome of the poll. We have a wide geographic area (international, in fact) here in the 'Hood with a vast array of surgeons and WLS centers represented. I hope everyone will vote so we can get a good sampling.

Good poll. It will be interesting to see the results.

I agree, this is interesting. We are told such different things...

Good thoughts on Protein.

The other day Marla and I were surfing through a Bariatric Supplement website and found some Protein tablets. Since I am always on the go, I thought I'd try these since they are chewable. I'll let you know how they work for busy schedules. I thought for me they'd be a great snack to keep my hunger at bay.

I know when I keep my protein up, as you all have said, I feel better. Isn't that the point of all of our journeys, to feel better?

Thanks catsroomie! We need a central location to compare notes, check out what other doctors are saying, & add info to our Doctors handouts so that they are aware of different methods.

Since we are individual, we all need information to sort through and use what works best for us. I am so grateful that we compare notes, it helps us each become more successful!

I know I feel best and lose best when I use protein supplements
throughout my day. I can't eat enough to make the 100gm
per day goal I find works best for me. I add the supplements
to nearly everything... yogurt, shakes of sourse, coffee, etc.

My favorite protein Supplement Powder is called CyroSport MuscleMilk
from (do not second guess my shopping prowess!)
www.Vitacost.com
here's the link for Vanilla $19.87 (This VERY PRODUCT sells for $59-$69 at GNC and other health stores)

here's for the chocolate $19.87
http://www.vitacost.com/CytoSport-Muscle-Milk-Chocolate-Milk

Vitacost.com has it at the lowest total cost as they ship ANY SIZE ORDER for a FLAT shipping fee of $4.99!!!!!!!!!!
It's worth the wait of a few days.
This is the best stuff anywhere, preferred by many because it is non-grainy and highest quality ingredients.
Also, mixes better than any other I've found!

Lynn,
Please let us know how the tables work for you....I would love to have something like that. My job requires lots of travel and sometimes it's hard for me to get the protein in.
Thanks for a great topic.

@ Terri!

Here is the Link Chewable Protein Tabs and I hope to get them in the next day... I also ordered chewable vitamins since they have such a wide variety of flavors. Pearl is able to swallow vitamins, but she gets kinda of mean when I do that. "If Pearl ain't happy, ain't no one happy!"

Thanks alot Lynn. I ordered some protein tablets. I can hardly tolerate the protein drinks and would much rather take a tablet. We were discussing this at our last support group meeting so will be sure to pass the website on.
