I am on day 5 of the 5dplan I have lost 7lbs and feel better than I have in 2years. I had forgotten what full feels like. We had a sudden death in the family tuesday night and met with friends last night for what I call a eatathon. I was amazed at how well I did I will not lie. I ate a small hand full of peanuts and alittle crab dip. But no sweets and NEVER liquid and food together. THEN the brownies were sitting on the tabling SCREAMING my name..I literally ran from them into the arms of a friend who is loosing also. She said picture them as poop and I got grossed out and the screaming went away and I lost all desire to eat them.
I made it. Now I have to get through the eat fests at the viewing and after the funeral. (greeks all they do is eat) Any suggestions. Also anyone have a good site to give me list of what I can and can not have after my five day plan, and just the basic of eating to succed at weight loss surgery eating.
Thanks again for all being here. You all have given me the tools to get back on track and the support. I can not say thnak you enough.

My only advice would be, if you can't eat before to avoid the munchies, would be to focus on the protein items available. When you said greek, I envisioned shish-ka-bobs and gyros. LOL! (on a serious note, both would be good for the protein). Ideally, try to eat BEFORE you get there so you aren't starving - it makes it a bit easier to keep from nibbing. You could also take a protein shake or bar with you if you feel as though it would help you to avoid the evil foods there.
Sorry about your loss - but you can do it. OH...one more thing...if it's at a family home - try to hang out in the living room or a room where there IS NO FOOD. If you're hanging out in the kitchen or next to the dining room table, it could lead to mindless grazing. Just a thought.

Oops...as to what you can have after day 5 (we call every day after day 5... Day 6) Day 6 is basically the same eating plan as Day 5 (any solid protein - beef, chicken, fish, etc.) - BUT you can add in complex carbs in the forms of low GCI veggies, etc. The main rule is you should be eating 2/3 protein to 1/3 complex carbs. Continue with the no drinking rule, drink your water and get your exercise.

Hi Rachael,
I agree with Toris. Try to eat first. If you are full and listen to your pouch, it will be easier! Drink some water while you're there too. As for the alcohol, I wouldn't. At an emotional event like that you won't be "yourself" anyway and the alcohol might make you hungrier and less able to "deal". Just my opinion!!
I'm sorry for your loss, but I'm glad you had such success with the 5dpt!!!

Low glycemic index veggies is GCI I believe...
Sorry, I cannot answer the alcohol question for you
I am glad you stayed strong during an emotionally charged time and walked away from the car monster foods...even when they followed you to the living room!

Rachael...
Congrats on one stellar 5DPT! Man... what a showing! What you've learned will serve you well
if you
- Always eat Protein First!
- Keep carbs to an absolute minimum
- No refined sugar
- No slider foods (see 5DPT definition)
- Divide your weigh by 1/2 to determine the ounces of water you need per day
- Move around more today than you did yesterday
- The ONLY foods to ban from your list are empty carbs and refined sugar (you know, that includes that high fructose corn syrup stuff )
- If you do all of the above, you won't even need to worry about natural fats....I don't. Just look at the ingredients in those lovely 5DPT soups!
Relax, enjoy and take this on as a life plan adding a few more complex carbs at true maintenance!
